Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) has announced that its upcoming full-size SUV (sport utility vehicle) would be called the Zeekr 9X, and that it will offer an ultra-luxury Grand version of the model.
The electric vehicle (EV) maker today announced that the Zeekr 9X will be a global flagship ultra-luxury SUV and would be the first to feature Zeekr's super electric hybrid technology.
Zeekr will showcase the Zeekr 9X at the Shanghai auto show at the end of April, with deliveries of the model scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025.
The EV maker also announced the Zeekr 9X Grand, which could be priced at more than RMB 1 million yuan ($137,840).
The Zeekr 9X will mark a key step in the Zeekr brand's transition from offering only battery electric vehicle (BEV) models to also offering plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models.
Founded in March 2021, Zeekr, like other major EV makers in China, initially offered only BEVs.
However, with rapidly changing market conditions over the past few years, almost all local EV makers have begun to add hybrid models to their lineup, in addition to BEV offerings, to target a larger market.
Zeekr confirmed in August 2024 that it would be launching hybrid models, saying at the time that its first hybrid offering would be a flagship SUV to be launched in the second half of 2025.
The model would be powered by Nvidia's Drive Thor autonomous driving chip and would be available in variants featuring new electric-hybrid powertrain technology, Zeekr CEO Andy An said on August 21, 2024.
Zeekr would launch three all-new models in 2025, one in each of the second through fourth quarters, An said on a January 2 call.
The company would release a full-size flagship SUV in the third quarter, and a mid-to-large-size luxury SUV in the fourth quarter, both of which would be available in BEV and PHEV variants, An said on January 2.
The Zeekr 9X would come with an engine but drive much better than PHEVs in the market, the EV maker said today in a statement shared with CnEVPost.
More details about the new powertrain technology would be announced later, Zeekr said.
The Zeekr 9X Grand would join the Zeekr 009 Grand to form the "Grand family" under the Zeekr brand, which offers ultra-luxury products and experiences for the premium segment, the brand said.
The Zeekr 009, initially launched on November 1, 2022, is Zeekr's second model after the Zeekr 001, with deliveries beginning in February 2023.
The EV maker launched the Zeekr 009 Grand on April 19, 2024, a more luxurious variant of the regular Zeekr 009, which is currently priced from RMB 789,000 in China.
