Shares of BYD (SHE: 002594) have seen a good start in the Year of the Snake in the Chinese lunar calendar, accumulating gains of more than 25 percent in several trading sessions to return to the RMB trillion market capitalization club.
By the close of trading, BYD's Shenzhen-traded shares rose 4.59 percent to RMB 345.05 per share today, hitting a new high since July 2022.
Since February 5 -- the first trading day of the Year of the Snake -- BYD's Shenzhen-traded shares have accumulated a 25.7 percent gain.
That puts BYD back on the list of companies with market capitalization above RMB 1 trillion in China's A-share market, with the other auto industry player on that list being CATL (SHE: 300750), which has a market cap of RMB 1.12 trillion.

BYD's stock surge over the past few days has been driven in large part by optimism over its smart-driving strategy.
The company announced on February 6 that it would hold a launch event for its smart strategy on February 10, which triggered its shares to rise by the daily limit of 10 percent that day.
On February 10, BYD unveiled its vehicle intelligence strategy, announcing that the entire lineup of its models would come with free smart driving systems.
BYD brought the Smart Driving Edition updates to 21 models in sweeping move, including 10 models in the Dynasty lineup and 11 models in the Ocean lineup.
